Okay, I've got a story to tell you; one that maybe you’ll be able to relate to. When I was a kid I was terrified of the dark. Like many other kids I would lie awake late at night in fear of the boogie monster swooping me up in the middle of the night. My parents would wake up many nights/mornings to find me either sleeping on the couch or begging for them to let me into their bed because I was scared. So after this happened one too many times, my parents took action. They bought me a magic lamp! They put it beside my bed, and said that anytime I was scared of the dark all I had to do was turn this “magic lamp” on and anything that was stirring in the dark would disappear and I would be safe for the rest of the night! My parents were geniuses. I Felt like I had superpowers and was able to face my fears of the dark because of this magic lamp.
Here's the thing with this story though; I'm not just sharing this because I like to tell stories about myself as a kid but because it reminds me of what we have as believers! Before we come to know the Lord we live in a life full of fears with no remedy, like when I didn't have the “magic lamp”. But when we become believers we get something incredible; we receive this thing called the Holy Spirit and we don't have to be fearful any more. We get our own magic lamp that we carry wherever we go, one that never fades or goes away.
In John 8:12 (ESV) Jesus says to his disciples, “I am the light of the world, whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life” We don't have to worry about our fears in life as scary as they may seem because the Lord is with us and always is. We as believers need to realise that Jesus is bigger than anything we face, and because of that we can walk confidently in our lives and be able to face our fear head on.
Just like I have to lay my fear and worries before the Lord and allow him to be my light, are there fears you have to lay down in your life? Take a moment today and sit with the Lord to lay those fears before him because He wants to be your source and strength, to be with you always, so you can walk without fear!
Have a blessed day! :)
